Atletico fans have launched a Twitter protest against Ronaldo, warning the club that the talismanic striker will not play for them next season. Despite the warning, the fans are ready to fight back. Sancho scored their second goal of the game in torrential Australian rain, sending the Atletico supporters into a frenzy. As a result, Man United’s spokesman, Jose Mourinho, has called for Ronaldo to be sent off.

In the past few days, Manchester United’s interim manager Ralf Rangnick has backed the former Portugal international to leave. Ronaldo is keen to move to Atleti but they have warned him not to go to their rivals. The protesters have even started a hashtag – #ContraCR7 – on Twitter, to show their opposition to the deal.

The move of Ronaldo to Chelsea did not make any sense from a footballing perspective. The club are not in a ‘win now’ mode and have been rebuilding their squad, while Ronaldo hasn’t yet made a decision on his future. United finished outside of the top four last season, so the move was hardly a bargain. Besides, Ronaldo has 12 months left on his contract. Considering that, he was probably aware that United were not in a title race last season.

The Manchester United owners may be tempted to cash in on Ronaldo, but they’re unable to sell him. The club’s new manager, Erik ten Hag, has already made plans to rely heavily on the talisman next season. And while Manchester United are not likely to sell him, they’re prepared to trade their two most important players for a deal to land Torres.
